Williamson and Plec opened up about the returns of Kayla Ewell, who was killed off in Season 1, andMalese Jow, killed in the second season. “That was tough with those,” Williamson recalls. “We didn’t want to say goodbye to them as actresses. It took us a long time to earn it but we had to circle all the way back around and we got there.”

“We weren’t faking around. She was dead. She was as dead as it gets,” Plec says of Ewell, who played Jeremy’s then-vampire girlfriend Vicki. “It felt right for who Jeremy was with his character, his relationship with Bonnie, to reintroduce these really powerful love elements so that Bonnie could experience the consequences that the witches threatened.”

 Fellow creator and EP Kevin Williamson had some spoilery scoop to add about the new season of TVD and what it means for Damon, Elena and Stefan. Delena fans will want to pay close attention !“Katherine has two true loves. If she’ll really admit it to herself and open herself up to it, she’ll find that she truly loves both Salvatore men. Damon and Stefan are part of her history, creation and the fabric of everything she is.”

• “I always find myself writing for Damon. I like the snark, the evil and good interplaying inside him; so I have somewhat taken possesion of him.”
• “In season 3 we will really see things progress between Damon and Elena. We’ll get to watch and see how their friendship or whatever they’re meant to be progresses. It’s going to be interesting and explosive.”
• “Klaus has Stefan and Klaus’ agenda extends far further than breaking the curse. It’s just going to go on and on.”
• “New creatures will be introduced, but only when it’s appropiate.”

PW: Haunting implies “ghosts” — is that what you consider Vicki & Anna? 
Kevin: No. But if you are thinking ghosts, that is the appropriate place to start.

PW: Does it open the door for more people to return, like Jenna? 
Kevin: I guess, but we’re not planning anything like that. There still needs to be a consequence to death, even in this storyline we’ve created with Jeremy. It will abide by a set of rules.

PW: Can I ask, how did you keep it secret? 
Kevin: For the longest time, only Julie and I knew. Even when we wrote the final script we kept that scene out. We finally engaged Malese [Jow] & Kayla, who were both excited and on board for it – but the thing is, we had to make sure they were not only available for the finale, but also season three to play out the storyline. But we told them, if people see you in Atlanta, here are your excuses.
